Dr. Ishrat Husain (2015-2016)
Husain is one of Pakistan’s most distinguished economists. He was dean and director of the prestigious Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in Karachi—the oldest graduate business school in Pakistan—between 2008 and 2016. He is currently professor emeritus at IBA and chairman at the Center for Excellence in Islamic Finance. He has held a number of senior positions in public service, including governor of the Central Bank of Pakistan from 1999 to 2005. Earlier in his career, he spent two decades with the World Bank. His publications include Pakistan: The Economy of the Elitist State (published by Oxford University Press).

is one of Pakistan’s most distinguished women’s rights activists. She has worked for decades on women’s issues, especially those linked to violence against women, prostitution, women’s mobility, and sexual harassment. is a well-known business and economic journalist in Pakistan who has written for numerous local and international media, including the Express Tribune and currently Dawn. In television his current affiliation is with the BBC. He has taught at the prestigious Lahore University of Management Sciences, and brings with him a deep familiarity with the workings of Pakistan’s economy and the realities of business and policy decision making.

Dr. Simbal Khan, (2012-13)
is director for Afghanistan and Central Asia at the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad, a position she has held since 2008. Much of her recent work has focused on U.S./NATO military strategy in Afghanistan and its impact on Pakistan security. Her articles have appeared in China and Eurasia Forum Quarterly (U.S.), Eurasia Critic (Turkey), Strategic Studies (Pakistan), and elsewhere. She is also a regular radio and television commentator on Afghanistan and other foreign policy/national security issues. She holds a Ph.D. in international relations from Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad.

is an award-winning journalist and writer. He is a senior editor with the Pakistani magazine Newline and a correspondent for the Wall Street Journal and the Times of London. He has also covered Pakistan and Afghanistan for Newsweek, the Associated Press, and the Economist. He is the author of The Scorpion Tale: The Relentless Rise of Islamic Militants in Pakistan and How It Threatens America (Free Press, 2010) and Front line Pakistan: The Struggle with Militant Islam (Columbia University Press, 2007).

Ms. Huma Yusuf, (2010-11)
has been a staff writer and editor with the Pakistani daily Dawn and its monthly news analysis magazine Herald since 2003. In recent years, she has also contributed articles to other newspapers, including the Christian Science Monitor, The News, and Indian Express, on topics related to human rights, terrorism, energy, and U.S.-Pakistan relations. Her work has garnered the All Pakistan Newspapers Society award for Best Column (2008) and the European Commission’s Prix Lorenzo Natali for Human Rights Journalism (2006).

Dr. Lodhi will spend nine months in residence at the Wilson Center , beginning in September 2009, carrying out research for a book looking at the internal and external challenges Pakistan has faced since 2001.
